Bing Webmaster’s Reports and Data

This tool is under a section called ‘Reports and Data’ that will give you all sorts of useful data and reports from Bing about your website. The tool, ‘Reports & Data’ will give you a short and quick review of you site’s activity and other data from different sources as well.

The page provides you with a site activity chart too, which makes it easy to see how many times your page was visited and how many clicks visitors have made on your page. But it even gives you a statistics on:

  • ‘Appeared in Search’ or the number of impressions your site received,
  • ‘Pages Crawled’ or the number of pages Bing has crawled
  • ‘Crawl Errors’ Bing tells you how many crawl errors were encountered during a search
  • ‘Total Pages Indexed’ The total number of pages from your site in the index

The provided site activity report is totally interactive and while hovering over the chart, it will give you accurate points of data at any given time.

Bing’s Crawl Control

This feature can be found under the ‘Configure My Site’ section, which allows you to exert control over the speed at which the Bingbot makes requests for pages on your website when someone is searching on it.

You can set the Bingbot to crawl your website faster or slower than the normal crawl rate on the 24 hours of a day. Basically this tool will limit Bingbot activity to times when there is a lower rate of search and more bandwidth is available.

The best way to setup your crawl pattern which will optimize your bandwidth for the visitors of your site is if you are using the ‘when do you receive the most traffic during the local time day’ drop-down menu. This menu will give you a number of presets that will automatically do the job for you by telling Bingbot to crawl slower during the hours when there are fewer visitors. But if you do not want to set a preset for your crawl pattern, you can always choose to make one for yourself.

You can do this by just setting up the crawl patterns with your mouse. Hover over the cubes and hold the left button on your mouse and drag it, it will set the quadrants on the timeline on the x-axis. The more blue squares you put on the timeline the more visits you will get from Bingbot, which means you will have a faster crawl. If you leave fewer blue squares it will cause to the total opposite of the action that was described previously.

The default option to your crawl pattern is always five blue squares for every single time slice. When you are happy with the options that you have made, just click save and you are good to go.
