iPage Website Builder Review
Along their web hosting service, iPage offers a number of tools for building a website or an online shop. You can choose to install WordPress to your website or you can build it using their website builder.
Although you can setup a WordPress site in just 20 minutes, with iPage’s website builder you can publish your site even faster.
In this article I will show you how to create a website with the new iPage Website Builder. At the end of this review will give you the pros and cons as well.
Please read my in-depth iPage review, if you want to learn more about their uptime, performance and customer support.
Is it Worth Using the iPage Website Builder?
It is not a secret; I use WordPress for all my websites. WordPress gives me a lot of flexibility, when it comes to integrating new features or design elements. I’m a web developer and I like to edit my website using programming.
But not everyone knows programming, and this is fine. You don’t need to know writing code in order to create a beautiful website.
With iPage’s site builder, you can setup your website with no need of writing any code. Although with WordPress you can do the same thing, the learning curve is steeper.
So if you are that type of person, who don’t have the time to learn how to code or how to use WordPress, the iPage website builder is really a good choice.
How to Use iPage Website Builder?
As mentioned before, you don’t need to be a programmer to create a website. The website builder offered by iPage is really easy to use. Here I will show you how to set up your website:
- Login to your iPage hosting control panel
- Click on the WebsiteBuilder icon
- Add a domain to the website builder
- Choose a template that is suitable for your niche
- Modify, delete or create new pages
- Check your website look on mobile editor
- Add elements to your site (images, buttons, text, social feeds, contact form, map, etc.)
- When ready with editing, publish your website
- In just few seconds after pressing the Publish button, your website will be live
The above steps illustrated with an image:
This is basically the whole process. If you want to modify your website later, you just login to control panel, access the WebsiteBuilder section and click on Edit Website button.
After you are done editing the website, just hit the Publish button to enable the modifications on the live site.
Here is an example of how your website will look after publishing it:
iPage Website Builder Templates
As mentioned before, there are hundreds of templates you can choose from. You can select the industry you are in and choose a suitable design. Preview is also available for each template. So you can take a look to how your website will look like if you choose a specific template.
Templates are fully customization: you can change background image, color scheme, font style and size, logo, layout of the pages, basically almost anything. Even though you choose a very standard design, you can make it look unique and outstanding.
Here are some examples of template available with the website builder:
iPad & iPhone Compatibility
I’ve tested iPage’s site builder on my iPad as well iPhone. To my surprise, it worked really well. Certainly it is more difficult to manipulate the elements, but it works.
I would not build my website with my iPad, but it is a good option to edit certain elements or the text.
WebsiteBuilder vs WordPerss
If you just want to get your website online and have a decent design, the WebsiteBuilder is perfect for you. However, if you can spend a few hours learning WordPress, it might be worth it.
WordPress allows you to expand your website and integrate much more functions. With themes such as Divi, you can change every aspect of your website’s design.
The maintenance of a WordPress site is your duty, while the WebsiteBuilder software is fully managed by iPage. Often you need to perform updates of your WordPress system and plugins installed to your site.
WordPress is very popular open source software, which is targeted by hackers. Although the team behind WordPress is constantly improving and fixing security issues, the software is not completely bulletproof.
The iPage Website Builder is more difficult to be hacked, because their code is not publicly available.
It is hard to say which the best is; it always depends on your needs.
iPage Website Builder vs Wix, Weebly and Mozello
Wix, Weebly and Mozello are some awesome website builders that are a strong competition to iPage’s site building tools.
Wix and Weebly are probably the most popular website creators out there. Both tools are pretty similar in terms of features and pricing. They offer more plans than iPage, however they are slightly more expensive. Compared to iPage, the features offered by Wix and Weebly are very similar. Weebly is also available through the iPage control panel.
Mozello is less expensive, but it lacks in features compared to iPage’s website builder.
The downside with iPage’s website builder is that you can only use it if you have a hosting account with them. At this moment you can’t purchase the side builder separately.
However if you purchase their hosting plan, you can use their site builder on your domain for free. You are allowed to create up to six pages with the free plan.
The other website builders also have a free plan, but you can only use the tool on a subdomain such as yourwebsite.weebly.com and can’t add your own domain until you purchase a premium plan.

The Pros & Cons of iPage Website Builder
I really like this software, but there are some pitfalls that you should know about. Here are the things I like about this site builder:
Pros of iPage Website Builder
- It is very intuitive and easy to use – drag & drop elements; no need to use any programming
- Comes with hundreds of pre-built mobile-friendly templates for any industry
- The builder as well the website loads very fast (I’ve tested it!)
- Comes with SEO tools to help you optimize your page
- PayPal & Google Analytics integration
- Ecommerce feature with inventory management
And here are some things I don’t like about this website builder:
Cons of iPage Website Builder
- You can add only up to 6 pages on the free version
- Unlimited pages are available with the Professional Plan, which costs an extra $10.99 / mo
- Ecommerce features are available only with the Business Plan, which is an extra $20.88 / mo
- You are locked into the website builder, can’t migrate it to WordPress or other software
Conclusion
If you want to create a simple website quickly, this tool might be your best choice. No need to use programming, just choose a design, drag and drop the elements you need and publish your site in minutes.
